Roasted Chipotle Salsa (Can or Freeze) | AnOregonCottage.com
Here's how I make my favorite roasted chipotle salsa. I use canned chipotles in adobo sauce, which adds a smokey depth - and a bit more spice. Make a big batch to water-bath can. Or you can freeze it. Or make a smaller batch to eat right away.

    When you are just storing the water keifir for a month or two, are you just putting the water kefir in the sugar water solution and putting a tight lid on it and sticking it in the fridge? How does that not explode and build carbonation? I want to make this but I am afraid of making an terrible mess by accident.

    To stop it from foaming up when you pour it you should keep your glass in the fridge or preferably the freezer, works well for me. And the initial geyser of soda using the clip lids is why I use screw top bottles for all of my fermented drinks. You can slowly unscrew the lid only so far as to start releasing small amounts of gas and if it looks like it’s foaming up to the point it’ll start spraying you can just tighten up the lid, wait for it to calm down and then repeat until you can remove the lid.

    • @AnOregonCottage
      @AnOregonCottage 10 днів тому

      That's a good idea to use screw top lids that way! I have now figured out a way to slowly release the gas with the flip top lids, too, so I don't get the geysers (and I hadn't really before this - I think my grains were really active for some reason at this time).

      It has only done this very few times for me - usually in the summer when it's warmer and I leave them in the second ferment for the same two days - they only need one day when it's warmer, I'm learning! Also, if you slowly release the lid (unlike how I just opened it here), you'll hear some gas escape and then you can close the lid again and let it settle, then open all the way slowly and you won't get the spray (again, I'm learning!).

    I have never trimmed my tomatoes. Can you explain that a little bit more? And thank you for the bungee cord idea, I love it.

    • @AnOregonCottage
      @AnOregonCottage 24 дні тому

      Trimming the lower leaves of tomatoes does a couple things - it helps with airflow and so reduces the chances of blight and it helps put the plant's energy to producing fruit. Keeping the plants smaller by removing extra leaves also allows us to plant them closer and tests have show that the harvest is the same or more than just letting them grow wild. Does that make sense? (Also, towards the end of the season, you'll want to prune any new growth and flowers off so that all the plants energy can go to ripening the tomatoes on the plant before frost hits.)

    Hi. I am using same bottles for 2nd ferment. Same cherry juice and mine is always flat. I have great carbonation after 1st ferment. Any suggestions?

    • @AnOregonCottage
      @AnOregonCottage 24 дні тому

      The only thing I can think of is warmth - when it's cold in the kitchen I will set mine on the heater vent for a bit and then wrap in a towel. My sister keeps a quartz lamp in her kitchen with her kefir bottle next to it for the warmth. I also will leave them days longer sometimes until I see the small bubbles forming in the tops of the bottles when it's cold. The reason I had so much carbonation at the end of the video is because it was hot out and I still let the bottles go the two days when they only needed one, so temperature is a key factor. Hope that helps you some!

The process is exactly the same as with the water kefir grains, the finished beverage even tastes the same. Oh my gosh you were the first video I tried and thank you so much within the first 10 minutes you hit on exactly what I'm looking for. I live in Yuma Arizona and I am planting mainly flowers no vegetables to later on in the year around fall. We also have crabgrass that my husband did and he does with the hose on everything but the sunlight will magnify those drops and burn my leaves it doesn't get to the roots and it will them and he's over watering them. When my son was younger he started a garden of watermelon and pumpkin same house same area. He was having the same issues so I figured I'll look for a soaker hose or a weeping hose. Now if you live in the southwestern the temperatures that I live in is about 6 months of the year which is 100 plus degrees I do not suggest that you leave these things out all year but put them away when you're not using them otherwise leave them outside and you can use them. I need to measure for a recycled aluminum canoe that we have to block gophers from getting to the roots and a couple of sunflowers off to the side so maybe 20 ft and another 15 ft of my other sunflowers by our turtle pond. I don't need a 100ft hose or maybe no more than 50 Max but how do I cut it and get it to fit in two different places with one hose? You came to my rescue and I thank you so much for your helpful information and I am subbing and following! I hope you got something for Crabgrass in the southwest how to cure that long because he's having issues and we're having major gopher issues we're trying pesticides but I've heard castor oil but that's expensive. Between the soil compost and the water and the plants and the trees and shrubbery and lights that we have put into these gardens it is costing me an arm and a leg I got electric coming up in the summer and that's hella expensive too like 300 to 400 bucks! And with binomials well nothing's getting cheaper these days is it😅 I'm sure you're getting a lot more people that are growing vegetables and or flour shrubbery whatever if it grows in the dirt they're growing it because well we got a crimp and save , cut corners here and find the best deals that are going to work right the first time! Now if you could just be this great problem solvers you are from my garden that you could be for other things in my life my life would be perfect! Wishing you well and recommending you on X and rumble!! Homesteading building things on your own and being self-sufficient isn't just for the preppers, hippies, farmers, and bored old people. it's also for those who just have common sense! And guess what I'm one of those old people so I don't want to hear it!! 😊❤️👍🏻💯🇺🇲😉

    • @AnOregonCottage

      I'm so glad this solved your problem! You're so right about not leaving the hoses out in the heat that you have there - I can't imagine! You have done a great job with the deer resistant garden. I'm going to try the lavender purchased in small pots this year. My suggestion for your birdbath would be to add a solar water fountain and your view out the window would be even better.

      Thank you so much! I have thought about adding a solor fountain, too.

    One tick I learned is that when you pop the bottle after the second ferment is you put pressure on top of your cap while openings and open very slowly and put pressure on lid,if it bubbles too much close and open again slowly.Love this video

      Great point! I do that now - I hadn't ever really needed to, but as it got warmer in this kitchen the kefir got more bubbly than I knew. 😂
